Bananas are the new plastic

Normally petroleum is used to produce plastic. But Elif Bilgin invented a new method using bananas to produce Bio-Plastic. The future is banana

Instead of Petroleum Plastic: A turkish pupil developed a method to turn banana peels into plastic. The 16 year old Elif Bilgin won the Science in Action Award (powered by Google Science Fair).

How does it work?

She explains the whole process nicely illustrated in this Youtube Video:

It is a nice idea and was worth $50,000. The solution decreases the pollution and is good for recycling. Petroleum based plastic will decrease and Bio-Plastic could be the invention for our plastic world. Sadly the plastic is still plastic and it doesn’t decompose (otherwise we couldn’t use it) but it’s a step in the right direction of a responsible and new way of thinking.
